To the family
Farewell my friend, neighbour and confidante. Your body weakened but your faith prevailed. The stories of our early years of parenting in Labrador City are so meshed together that it is difficult to not find you in each one. Your children learned how to speak English while Preston, a three year old, remained unilingual. When Naila came along, you were determined for her to speak french and covenanted that you would only speak french to her and you did. When the children wanted in after only a few minutes outside on a Labrador winter day, you wouldn't let them give up early so you would give them each a toffee. It took a long time to eat one in the cold and your strategy worked. They played hours in the cold of winter and sunk in the feet of snow in the spring like days of May when the snow was soft. You rescued both them and their boots. When we reconnected four years ago it was as though we never had been apart. Our visits were precious. Such sweet and rare friendship are a gift to be cherished. We grieve our loss but celebrate your life and faith. Denise, my friend, rest in peace and rise in glory.
