It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gilles Fernand Carbonneau, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the age of 86. He had been hospitalized in Laval, Quebec due to complications related to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

He will be greatly missed by his devoted partner Madeleine Allard; his loving children and their spouses Dave Éric Carbonneau (Martine Houle), Danielle Carbonneau (Dave Duncan) and Lisa Carbonneau (Sean Carolan), as well as his beloved grand-children Sebastian and Christian Duncan, and Ronan and Brenna Carolan.

Gilles was born on November 23, 1939, in Montreal to his parents, Raynald and Blanche Carbonneau (née Huneault). He looked up to his father, who was a police officer in Montreal. He shared a close relationship with his mother and brother Normand, and the family enjoyed summer trips up North with their extended family.

While growing up in Hochelaga in Montreal, Gilles attended École Meilleur - Brothers of the Sacred Heart. He pursued his higher studies in finance and graduated from Les Hautes Études Commerciales (now HEC Montréal). He worked as a chartered accountant for several organizations, including Expo 67 and Les Prévoyants du Canada. In his spare time, he enjoyed baseball, golf, fishing and hanging out with his buddies, the “Bibitte Rangers”.

Despite his busy career, he was a devoted father who drove his children to all their sports, dance classes and Girl Guide camps. He was a jovial man and a true gourmand who loved good food, cheese and wine.

Gilles fully enjoyed his retirement by travelling and spending quality time with his family and friends. He was eager to travel the world with Madeleine, visiting China, Vietnam, Mexico, Crotia and Italy together. As a child, he had dreamed of many of these places after reading his favorite “bande dessinée”, “Les Aventures de Tintin”. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Papi. He often took them fishing and taught them to cheer loudly for his beloved Habs, les Canadiens de Montréal, even if they live in Toronto! We couldn’t have asked for a better partner, parent, grandparent and friend.

A funeral service will be held on December 28, 2025, at the Coopérative Funéraire du Grand Montréal, located at 2000, rue Cunard, Laval, QuebecThe visitation will take place from 1-3pm, followed by a service from 3-4 pm and a reception from 4-6 pm.

For those who cannot attend, the family invites you to watch the celebration live or rebroadcasted via the 'Watch the ceremony' button at the bottom of this notice.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Quebec Lung Association: https://poumonquebec.ca/.

Rest in peace, dear Gilles. You will be forever missed but never forgotten.
